Lingambudhi Lake crying for attention

Sir,

This has reference to the news item “Mysuru should become a model for green cover” in ‘Star of Mysore’ dated May 23. All these rhetoric of our people’s representatives are short-lived and just fade away once the event is over.

The media and the general public for the last few years have been vociferously highlighting the sorry state of Lingambudhi Lake on account of flow of drainage water along with heaps of garbage. Our representatives and Forest as well as MCC authorities time and again have assured to take action to prevent flow of drainage water to the Lake.

Instead of fixing a small mesh at the entrance of the canal, Forest authorities have undertaken “developmental works” in the Park. I am certain that within a few years Lingambudhi Park will disappear and will become a thing of the past.

Hence, I urge upon our representatives to look into the matter and initiate necessary action in preventing the flow of drainage water, at least before World Environment Day that falls on June 5, 2020.
