Lioness Rakshitha dies at Mysuru Zoo

Mysuru, Aug. 10 (KS)- Rakshitha, the 21.4-year-old lioness died at Mysuru Zoo. She was undergoing treatment since a week for age related illness and breathed her last yesterday, a day before World Lion Day is celebrated globally.

World Lion Day is celebrated globally on Aug. 10, to create awareness and support for the conservation of lions.

Rakshitha was born to Narasimha and Manini on Apr. 1, 2004 at the Zoo and was one of the attractions there.

Following illness, suggestions from global veterinary community was taken and Rakshitha was being treated at the Zoo.

Post-mortem was conducted at the Zoo and the lioness was cremated, according to a press release from the Zoo Executive Director.
