Mysore/Mysuru: At a time when there is a shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including body suits, masks, gloves and face shields, Lions Clubs International ‘District 317 A’ has donated PPE kits worth Rs. 1 crore to the Mysuru District Administration for it to use in its efforts to curtail COVID-19 pandemic.
The crucial PPE kits were handed over at an event held at a private hotel on KRS Road in city last evening. The event was organised by Lions Clubs International ‘District 317 A’ and Consortium of Mysore Lions Clubs and DLSF (District Lions Service Foundation).
Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait inaugurated the programme and the PPE kits were handed over by Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman H.V. Rajeev. DLSF Chief Dr. Nagaraj V. Bairy presided over the programme. The kits were handed over to Additional Deputy Commissioner B.S. Manjunath and Dean and Director of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) Dr. C.P. Nanjaraj.
Over 4,500 PPE kits, 4,500 KN-95 masks and over 8,000 surgical masks were part of the donation.
Inaugurating the programme, Tanveer Sait appreciated the efforts of Lions Clubs ‘District 317 A’ and lauded the office-bearers for the timely and noble gesture that will help the society.
“For decades, Lions Clubs have been dedicated to the service of the society and have demonstrated their social outlook many a time. During the pandemic like COVID-19, it is important for all frontline workers to protect themselves and their family members. For this, they must wear PPE kits in their line of duty,” Sait said.
MUDA Chairman Rajeev too lauded the efforts of Lions Clubs for donating PPE kits worth over Rs. 1 crore. “This donation will come in handy for the District Administration that is fighting the contagion where officers and employees from the top level to lowest level are risking their lives.
Accepting the donation, Additional DC Manjunath said that the donation would help the District Administration to effectively fight the virus. “Our doctors, officers and staff are actively involved in fighting the pandemic and such donations will help to further the cause. Voluntary organisations must come forward and help the administration so that there can be a united fight,” he said.
Medical Superintendent of K.R. Hospital Dr. B. Nanjundaswamy, office-bearers of Lions Clubs International ‘District 317 A’ Dr. G.A. Ramesh, Dr. Prabhamurthy, Dr. Sreevidya, Balakrishnaraju, M.V. Deviprasad, G.P. Diwakar, T.S. Ravindrakumar, Dr. G. Mohan and others were present.
