Liquor on its way to Wayanad seized near Virajpet, 2 held

Virajpet:  In a major seizure ahead of Lok Sabha Polls, Poll Officials this morning seized a goods vehicle (LMV) in which over 250 boxes of country made liquor worth about Rs.28 lakh was reportedly being transported from Maharashtra to Kerala without proper documents.

Officials attached to the Flying Squad and the Excise Department were on a routine check at Perumbadi Gate on Virajpet Makutta Road in the early hours of this morning, when they intercepted an Eicher goods vehicle.

Upon inspection, the officials found boxes of liquor without proper supporting transport documents, following which the vehicle was seized.

The liquor consignment said to be despatched from Maharashtra, was to be delivered at Wayanad in Kerala.

The driver and cleaner of the vehicle were questioned and later arrested, it is learnt.
