Live up to expectations of your degree: Sudha Murty

9th convocation of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research held   

Mysuru:  Infosys Foundation Chairperson Dr. Sudha Murty called upon students to live up to the expectations of their degrees besides dedicated service to people. Students should contribute their mite for the development and progress of the nation, she added.

She was delivering the convocation address after giving away awards and medals at the 9th annual convocation of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS-AHER) held in city this morning.

In all, 1,279 students were conferred degrees and diplomas.  

Students were conferred with degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Management Studies, Life Sciences and Biomedical Sciences. Of these, 35 students were awarded with Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree, four candidates with Doctor of Medicine (DM)/ Master Chirurgiae (MCH) degree and four candidates with M.Phil. degree. Sixty-five students were honoured with medals and awards for their outstanding performance.

Students dressed in trade-mark ‘Modi Jacket’ sitting in order of merit and programmes filled the Convocation Hall and they gave a loud round of applause as the announcement of presentation of degrees was made.      

Earlier, speaking after declaring the convocation open, Vice-Chancellor of JSS-AHER, Dr B. Suresh said that as many as 5,500 students have been studying in different courses offered by the JSS Deemed-to-be University that has 536 teaching staff and 663 supporting staff.

JSS ranked 3rd in India

He said JSS-AHER was ranked in 438 out of 1,258 educational institutions worldwide, making the University among the top 3 universities in the nation, according to the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2019. As many as 49 educational institutions were in the race for the top slot.

JSS-AHER secured third rank after Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institute of  Technology, Indore.

Chancellor of JSS-AHER, Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji presided over the function. Executive secretary JSS Mahavidyapeeta Dr. C.G. Betsurmath   was present.
