Living Entity Status for River Cauvery: CNC Jatha reaches world’s first dam site in Tiruchirapalli

Mysuru: Mission on Cauvery, a vehicular jatha organised by Codava National Council (CNC) from Talacauvery in Kodagu to Poompuhar in Tamil Nadu between May 24 and 30 to attain Living Entity Status for River Cauvery on par with Ganga, Yamuna and Narmada, was received by Delta Farmers Forum at Tiruchirapalli on the evening of May 27.

CNC President N.U. Nachappa, who addressed the gathering, explained about Mission Cauvery. Srirangam Ranganatha Swamy Temple Trustee Balu Dixithar presided. Trichy Tamil Sangam President Pandit Ramdas welcomed. Professor Dr. T. Mani proposed a vote of thanks.

On May 28, the Cauvery Jatha group visited the site where world’s first dam was built over sand by the legendary Tamil Emperor Karikala Cholan during 1st century AD. This Grand Anicut is built across River Cauvery and Vennar at Kallanai, Tiruchirapalli.
