Mysuru: With the subject on waiving farmers’ loans still remaining unclear, a delegation of farmers has decided to meet Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in Bengaluru on June 8 to clear all ambiguities.
Disclosing this at a meeting of farmers of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar district at Kuvempu Park near Gun House here yesterday, State Sugarcane Growers Association President Kurubur Shantakumar contended that the CM was delaying the announcement of waiving farm loans as promised by JD(S) prior to elections.
He recalled that the CM’s meeting with farmer leaders in Bengaluru on May 30 remained inconclusive and indecisive with apprehension and anxiety still haunting the farmers.
He said that the government was contemplating to waive farm loans taken between April 1, 2009 and Dec. 31, 2017 which would not cover many farmers.
He suggested the span to be changed to April 1, 2005 to Mar. 31, 2018 with no discrimination of farm loans as big or small. He also sought waiver for farm loans taken from leading private banks like HDFC and ICICI.
Farmer leaders Devaraj, Bhagyaraj and T. Somashekar, Shankar attended the meeting.
