Coming weekend, starting from Friday through Monday, Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha has organised three music and one ballet programme for the connoisseurs at 6 pm.
On Friday (Dec.7), it will be multi-talented Sampagodu Vighnaraja to treat the audience with a Karnatak Classical Vocal Concert being accompanied by well-known B.K. Raghu on violin, H.L. Shivashankara Swamy on mridanga and Sunad Anoor on kanjira. The concert is an endowment by Iyengar Bros, USA in memory of birthday remembrance of their brother Rangarajan Iyengar.
Sampagodu Vighnaraja is an Indian Karnatak vocalist, flautist and music composer, a popular proponent of the legendary GNB School. Born to Nagalakshmi and Sangeetha Vidwan D.S. Suryanarayana Bhat at Sringeri in 1995, he started his early tutelage when he was five years old under his father who is a direct disciple of GNB School. Later he learnt from Vid. D.N. Subramanya Bhat, one of his father’s disciples. Vighnaraja is also a self-taught flautist and slide guitarist.
He headed the instrument section at Temple of Fine Arts in Kuala Lumpur for six years, conducted various workshops for students in Malaysia and Tainan University of Technology, Taiwan. He is the Founder-Director of Surya Global Music Academy at Bengaluru.
On Saturday (Dec.8), it is upcoming sensation Vignesh Ishwar from Chennai to enthral the audience with his vocal concert. He will be singing for the Smt.Shantha Narasimham Memorial Concert, an endowment by her daughter Seetha Vatsalchari.
He will be accompanied on violin by Mattur Srinidhi, mridanga by Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma and morching by Pranav Dutt.
Vignesh Ishwar is one of the leading young musicians of Karnatak music. Endowed with a sonorous voice and unforgettable presence on stage, his music is fresh, energetic and impactful. His uniqueness as a musician stems from an individual approach that combines sincerity, discipline, creativity and perfect shruti. Hailing from Mumbai, Vignesh is trained from a young age of 4 under the tutelage of Palakkad’s T.S. Anantharama Bhagavathar. Since 2008, he has been receiving training from T.M. Krishna. Vignesh has performed extensively in India and abroad in all the prestigious Sabhas & Festivals. Vignesh has won prizes in numerous competitions throughout India. He has numerous awards to his credit including the Best Vocalist Award 2015 by the Madras Music Academy and Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Yuva Sangeet Puraskar. He is a graded artiste of the AIR Chennai.
Holding a Master’s Degree in Sound and Music Technology, he has always desired to contribute to the world of art through the amalgamation of music and technology. He is currently involved in the CompMusic project instituted by the prestigious European Research Council, developing computational methodologies for analysis, archival and retrieval of Indian art music.
On Sunday (Dec.9), it will be Lalitha Murthy Birthday Remembrance Programme, Endowment by daughters Dr. Prathibha, Padma and Monica. The audience being given a treat through Ballet ‘Ramabhyudayam’ by members of Bhushan’s Academy lead by Badari Divya Bhushan and Anjana Bhushan.
The conceptual ballet is based on ‘Navarasa Sloka’ on Rama — Sringara with Rama meeting Sita in garden; Veeram as he breaks the gigantic bow; Lord Rama’s Wedding and the dialogue between Mantahara & Kaikeyi; Then unveils Jatayu’s fight with Ravana as he kidnaps Sita bringing on Karuna; The humour is in abundance as Shoorpanaka tries to seduce Rama and Lakshmana. Bhaya and Bhibatsam follow as Lakshmana disgraced Shoorpanaka by chopping her nose and ears. Finally, adbhutam with the way monkeys build the Ramasethu and roudram as Rama slays Ravana and crowns Vibhishana. The ballet ends with a beautiful Shanta Rasa through Mangalam-Ramachandraya Janaka by Bhakata Ramadasa in Kurinji Ragam.
On Monday (Dec.10), Srimatha Ramanand will present a vocal concert being accompanied by M.P. Aditya on violin, R. Adamya on mridanga and G. Lakshminarayana on morching for DVS Acharya Memorial Concert sponsored by Leela Acharya.
Srimata hails from a family of Musicians. She is the daughter of Geetha Ramanand a well-known senior veena artiste. After having initiation to music through mother, she has perfected music under Vid. M.S. Sheela for a long time. She has performed in many Music Sabhas and has won laurels from the audience and critics.
