Mysuru: City’s Third CJM Court has sentenced a man to three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 3,000 after he was found guilty of threatening the girl with a knife and looting her of cash, gold and mobile phone in a train.
The man, who was sentenced is Shivaraju alias Shiva, a resident of Chinnadagudi Hundi in Nanjangud taluk.
On Aug. 29, 2019, Shivaraju, who boarded Chamarajanagar-Mysuru Train along with one Umesh of Yelwal, threatened the girl who was travelling in the train from Badanavalu to Mysuru with a knife and looted gold ornaments, Rs. 32,500 cash and mobile phone from her before fleeing. The then Inspector of Mysuru Railway Police Station N. Jayakumar, who had arrested the accused, conducted investigation and had submitted a chargesheet to the Court.
Judge Manjula, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced him to 3 years rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 3,000. Public Prosecutor B. Janardhana argued on behalf of the Government.
