Mandya: In a tragic incident, a lorry driver and cleaner were killed when the lorry they were travelling hit a parked lorry on Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway near Chikka Mandya, here yesterday night.

The deceased have been identified as Syed Mandal (driver) and Sirajullah Mallik (cleaner), both natives of West Bengal. The front portion of the lorry was mangled due to the impact.

On receiving information, the Police and Fire personnel rushed to the spot and pulled out both Syed Mandal and Sirajullah from the lorry and shifted them to the hospital. While Sirajullah died on the spot, Syed breathed his last in the hospital.

Mandya Central Police have registered a case and are investigating.
