Transportation of goods is likely to be hit severely with lorry owners going ahead with their proposed strike from midnight today.
The lorry owners are strongly opposing the steep hike in insurance premium for lorries and the move to scrap lorries older than 15 years along with other pending demands. Speaking to SOM this morning, City Lorry Owners Association President B. Revanna said that lorry owners were expecting an invitation from the government to discuss their pending demands.
Regretting that nothing had transpired in the last few days though the ultimatum was given quite early, Revanna added that the lorry owners were left with no alternative but to withdraw the vehicles from roads from midnight today.
Meanwhile, about 200 members of City Lorry Owners Association along with drivers led by Revanna staged a protest in front of RTO (West) in Lakshmipuram here this morning urging the Government to drop the steep hike in insurance premium of lorries.
They shouted slogans against the Central Government for often driving them to the wall showing no concern for their legitimate demands. The members later submitted a memorandum to the Regional Transport Officer (West).
