Mysuru: Vikala Vikaasa, an organisation working for the differently-abled, as part of World Braille Day, presented Vikala Vikasa Louis Braille Award to journalist L. Subramani of Deccan Herald at a programme organised at Patrakarthara Bhavan here yesterday.
University of Mysore (UoM) In-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof. C. Basavaraju, speaking after presenting the award, said that specially-abled persons were more knowledgeable and have good grasping power than normal persons and said that they should be given special respect.
Prof. Basavaraju said that UoM, in a bid to encourage visually challenged students to pursue higher education, BA and B. Sc textbooks were being produced in Braille besides giving them at discount rates.
He also said that the University was planning to provide concession in admission fees for specially-abled students, who are seeking admission to UG and PG courses besides stating that a proposal in this regard would be placed in the University’s next Academic Council Meeting.
