Mysuru: With the SSLC results announced on Friday last (May 12), the Pre-University Colleges across the city have been witnessing mad rush for applications. Parents and their wards have been thronging popular colleges across the city to get their hands on the applications. However, with the SSLC results being low compared to previous year, the applications are available easily.
The colleges, which are charging Rs. 25 per application, have made sure to provide it to as many as possible. There were also reports that a few colleges were charging more than the prescribed amount (ranging from Rs. 50 to Rs. 200) for the forms.
Students were seen standing in queue along with their parents at Marimallappa PU College, Sadvidya PU College, SVEI Composite PU College, Vijaya Vittala Composite PU College, Sri Jaychamarajendra PU College, Taralabalu Education Centre, MMK and SDM Girls PU College, Sri Viveka Vidyalaya PU College, Vidyavardhaka PU College, St. Philomena’s PU College, Seshadripuram Independent PU College and other colleges in city.
Some of the students, who had taken a decision to join a particular college, were seen discussing with their parents and friends. The students have also done their own research on the best colleges for various courses according to which they are seeking admission. While the demand is more for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology (PCMB) combination in Science, the least is for PCME (Electronics) combination.
Students have also preferred to study Commerce as many aim to become Chartered Accounts (CA) or enter Public Service through UPSC or KPSC. However, the admission list at the PU colleges is expected to be announced after May 25.
The colleges will also have to make provision for admission to those who clear the supplementary examinations to be held from June 15. Meanwhile, the admission process for various High Schools across the city have also started.
