Madikeri: A 53-year-old Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC) Member committed suicide by shooting self at his residence yesterday afternoon.

The deceased is Kodi Chandrashekar, a resident of Raghavendra Temple Street in the town. He shot himself to death in his bedroom at about 12 noon yesterday. The reason for Chandrashekar to take the extreme step is yet to be known.

He leaves behind his mother, brothers, wife and a daughter.

He had identified himself with Congress party and was a social worker. He had also served as the President and Director of Town Co-operative Bank, senior member of Kodagu Sahitya Parishat and as an active Member of Sarvodaya Committee.

Neighbours, who heard the sound of a gunshot, informed Police.

Madikeri Town Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, shifted the body to the District Hospital mortuary besides registering a case. The body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem was conducted. Madikeri Town Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
