Maharani’s Arts College students stage protest

Mysuru:  Fuming over various concerns related to their college canteen, the students of Maharani’s Arts College for Women staged an instant protest on Sept.13. 

The cost of the food available in the canteen is too high for hundreds of students coming from rural areas who are dependent on college canteen for their breakfast and meals and also the cleanliness is a major issue, they alleged.

Later, President of the College Development Committee, MLA L. Nagendra, who arrived at the scene, took the canteen contractors to task and ordered to close the canteen with immediate effect as the whole canteen premises was found to be untidy and messy.

MLA Nagendra also spoke to Education Department officials over the phone and instructed them to build college compound for safety of the students.

At the same time, MCC officials who were present promised to take action against those contractors who were maintaining the canteen.

Following assurance from the elected representative and concerned officials, agitating students called off the strike.

MCC Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, MCC Health Officer Jayanth, District Health and Family Welfare Department Officer Venkatesh, Principal Vijay Kumar, teaching staff and students were present on the occasion.
