Girija Madhavan’s friends Bollamma and Dechamma

Sir,

I would like to thank Girija Madhavan and Star of Mysore for the article titled “Maharani’s College in Old Mysore: A Nostalgic Recall” (SOM dated June 14, 2021).

It was very heart-warming to read about my grandmother, Dechamma.

As Maya Angelou once said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

This path down the memory lane was exactly a reminder for that, how kindness will be remembered forever.

With a heavy-heart I would like to inform that Mrs. Dechamma (Mrs. Kokkalera Devakie Uthaiya) passed away 2 years ago to this month.

This article came at such a beautiful time for us to remember and honour her memory.

I hope this e-mail finds Girija in good health and I wish my gratefulness could be conveyed to her.
