Mahout suffers serious injuries as tamed elephant attacks him

Siddapura: A mahout suffered serious injuries, when a tamed elephant attacked him, when he was removing the chains to allow it into the forests at Dubare Elephant Camp yesterday morning.

The injured mahout identified as 40-year-old Appaiah was removing the chain of elephant Gopi yesterday morning, when it attacked him with its tusks suddenly leaving him seriously injured.

Appaiah was rushed to the Community Health Centre in Siddapura, where he was provided first aid and later shifted to Madikeri General Hospital for further treatment. He is said to be out of danger. A case has been registered at Siddapura Police Station in this regard.

It may be recalled that a tamed elephant identified as Karthik had killed two mahouts at Dubare recently.
