Mysuru: The students of the Tent School who are participating in the dance programme at Children’s Dasara on Sept. 22, were in for a pleasant surprise when they were distributed costumes, yesterday at the Palace premises here.

The members of the Inner Wheel Club of Mysore Midtown, after reading a news item in  Star of Mysore about the requirement of the costumes for the children of the Mahouts and Kavadis to participate in the dance, voluntarily came forward and distributed the clothes.

Out of the 45 children studying in the Tent School, 22 are taking part in the group dance. Bade Makhan Government School teacher Shobha Prakash, Medar Block School teacher Akkamma and Savithri Convent teacher Dayanand are training the children. The children are going to dance to the tunes of folk and film songs and show their talents.

One of the songs chosen is from the film Nagarahole  ‘Nagarholeyal Ammale…’ for which they are practising. The song reflects the costumes of Adivasis and culture and hence they are able to relate to it.

Inner Wheel Club President Chaithra Mohan told SOM that they came to know about the need for the costumes after reading this newspaper. The Club members have jointly donated it. Along with the costumes, cake, chocolate and other sweets have  been distributed, she added.

Club Secretary Asha Mahesh, ISO Sabha Suryani, Members Nandini, Sheela Urs, Asha Nataraj, Chandrika Raghu, Geetha Krishna, Vidya Bhat and others were present.
