Mysuru: A first of its kind Parampare Koota (Heritage Club) has been constituted at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru under the Department of Studies in Ancient History and Archaeology and Research Division.
KSOU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sharanappa V. Halase inaugurated the Heritage Club at Nala auditorium in the Varsity campus here recently.
The VC said “While it is common to constitute Parampare Koota at Colleges, it is for the first time ever that the initiative has been taken up at KSOU.”
KSOU Registrar Prof. K.L. N. Murthy said “It is indeed an achievement that the Koota has taken shape at the University. We will taken an initiative to set up a big museum in the coming days.”
Head of Department of Studies in Ancient History and Archaeology, KSOU, Dr. Shelvapille Iyengar said “Under the Koota it is intended at conserving the heritage, history and memorials and create awareness about them. Activities will be conducted throughout the year and 50 studies have been selected for the Koota this time. They will be introduced to the richness of ancient inscriptions at Somanathapura.”
Later, the bus carrying Koota members on tour of ancient inscriptions was flagged off at KSOU campus.
Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. K.B. Praveen, Finance Officer Dr. A. Khadar Pasha, Deans Prof. Kamble Ashok and Prof. Ramanathan Naidu, Deputy Director of Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage Dr. C.N. Manjula, resource persons Dr. L. N. Swamy, Gowtham Jankal, Dr. Anjana Murthy, Dr. Raviprasad, Muniswamy, Shivashankar and others were present.
