Mysore/Mysuru: During the inspection led by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Dr. N.N. Madhu this morning, many vendors advocated for the reinstatement of Chikka Gadiyara (Dufferin Clock Tower) as a parking area. The area, once bustling with hundreds of vendors and shoppers, has now been cleared by the MCC, with plans for future cultural programmes.
Situated adjacent to Devaraja Market, this expansive space in the heart of the city was originally designed as a social gathering spot, offering visitors a conducive environment to relax and enjoy cultural events.
However, over time, the area became overrun by hawkers, vegetable and fruit vendors from the M.G. Road Market, resulting in clutter and congestion. The MCC has since cleared the space of all vendors, aiming to restore it to its intended purpose.
Now, once again, some vendors are urging the MCC to allocate space for parking. According to vendors, this measure would alleviate the parking woes in the locality, where both two-wheelers and four-wheelers currently face difficulties finding parking spots for their vehicles.
