Make mask wearing mandatory at public places

Sir,

Many establishments, malls and tourist places have been thrown open now. Though these activities are required for reviving the economy, it is a matter of great concern for the citizens as the city is a major tourist attraction for people from Kerala and Bengaluru, for they are waiting for an outing. Hence as a precautionary measure I propose following suggestions for consideration by the District Administration:

  1. Make wearing of mask compulsory in public places like malls, cinema halls, temples, shops, tourist places and while travelling in public transport. There is also a need to impose fines for establishments which allow people without mask.

In this regard I would appreciate the Police and other officials checking the people for wearing the mask during the lockdown period. This strict checking should continue even during unlock period. This single approach will greatly help in preventing the spread of Covid and abatement of third wave.

  1. I have heard about the air purifier “Shycocan” developed by a Scientist from Indian Institute of Science. It is claimed it can be used to make the rooms virus-free. The claim need to be verified by statutory body. If it is efficient in eliminating the virus it should be made mandatory to install in all Schools, Colleges, temples, tourist places, Community Halls, Restaurants etc.

When restaurants and marriage halls are thrown open, it is difficult to make wearing mask compulsory. However installing such devices will help in preventing the spread of virus.

  1. Vaccinating all the people is known to be most effective way in combating covid-19. Hence this exercise need to be carried out on a war-footing.
