Make traffic offenders pay for their mistakes

Sir,

I fully agree with Dr. S. V. N. Vijayendra when he says that signal jumping is on the rise in Mysore of late (SOM dated May 18). AIISH Circle is not the only junction where this happens. Of late, we see such violations in every junction across Mysuru.  Strength of Traffic Policemen in the city is not adequate to Police all the areas of the city. In any case, these offenders do not bother even if a challan is issued to them. I have the following suggestion: Authorities should issue cameras to select law-abiding citizens who are frequent road- users. With authorization from the Police,  they should record violations whenever they come across someone trying to outsmart the system.

Police can trace the offender and recover his insurance details. The details should be shared with all major insurance companies. When the policy comes up for renewal, they should not only do away with the “NO CLAIM” bonus but instead should hike up the premium.

They should be made to realise that they need to pay a price for their heroic adventures.
