Making Mysuru Clean and Beautiful

Sir,

I read with interest the news report on Median Strip Gardens (SOM dated Dec.18). It is a good initiative on the part of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC). Apart from those plants mentioned in the report, Bougainvilleas could also be planted on a large scale, particularly around trees, as they bloom throughout the year and are very colourful and beautiful. Flowering trees should also be planted wherever possible.

As the Swachh Survekshan survey is on, the MCC should think of drastic measures to prevent the dumping of garbage. If the Police can levy fine for traffic violation why can’t the MCC impose fines on those who dirty the city? The revenue generated could be used to engage more people to keep the city clean and also to buy modern road sweeping equipment. Merely hoping that people and organisations will not dirty the city and expecting to receive the ‘Cleanest City’ tag will not lead us to the desired outcome. Persistent problems require bold measures.
