Bengaluru: Malabar Gold and Diamonds, one of the largest jewellery brands of the country, has opened Grandma Home, a destitute home in Bengaluru, for women.
Minister for Women and Child Development, Disabled and Senior Citizen Empowerment Lakshmi Hebbalkar inaugurated the Home on Oct.20 at Banashankari, in the presence of Malabar Group Chairman M.P. Ahammed, Vice-Chairman K.P. Abdul Salaam, MD – India Operations O. Asher and Chairman of Thanal Daya Rehabilitation Trust Dr. Idrees.
Grandma Home offers free shelter, food and medical assistance, mental and physical healthcare facilities to its inhabitants who have been abandoned or neglected by their families. R. Ashoka, Padmanabhanagar MLA and N.A. Haris, Shantinagar MLA were also present.
Grandma Home which is being supported by Malabar Charitable Trust, the CSR arm of Malabar Group and operationally managed by NGOs such as Thanal, boasts of a comfortable, safe and hygienic living environment spread over 14,780 square feet with a capacity to accommodate 104 women.
The Home is equipped to cater to the needs of elderly individuals, offering a range of amenities and services to enhance their quality of life. A dedicated medical team with trained social workers specialised in elderly care have been deployed round-the-clock at the Home.
Grandma Home is a part of Malabar Group’s mission to offer safe havens to individuals so that they can regain stability, rebuild lives and find hope again. It reflects the Group’s commitment to empowering women and uplifting the marginalised sections of society.
Malabar Charitable Trust aims to open similar destitute homes in Hyderabad, Telangana and Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
