The members of the Swimming Association of Maldives who were in Mysuru from June 16, with eight (five male and three women) National Swimmers for their National Training Camp at Chamundi Vihar Swimming Pool, concluded their camp today.

The eight swimmers who took part in the National training camp were Ali Imaan, Hussain Haish Hassan, Mohamed Hussain, Ahmed Azzan Zahid, Mohamed Joodh Fayaz, Aishath Sausan, Aishath Ulya Shaig and Hamma Ahmed. The swimmers were accompanied by two coaches — National Head coach Ibrahim Musa and Farass Afeef — and Swimming Association of Maldives Vice-President Ismail Ali.

Speaking to SOM, the Maldives National coach Ibrahim Musa said that they chose Mysuru as the centre to have the National Camp as they did not have the facilities to train in their country in a swimming pool of international stature.

He also said that their previous training base was in Sri Lanka but they could not opt to the country as it was not safe. He lauded the efforts the swimming coach Aravind of Bangalore Swimming Research Centre, who made this possible by arranging the camp in Mysuru.

He also said that the swimmers took time to adopt to the change in weather conditions initially in Mysuru, but after a week they were back to their routine.

He said that the training camp proved worthwhile as the swimmers are preparing for the forthcoming Indian Ocean Island Games to be held in Mauritius from July 18 to 29 and the Asian Age Group Swimming Championship to be held in Bengaluru, India in September.
