Man arrested for robbing advocate; gold worth Rs. 7.25 lakh recovered

Mysore/Mysuru: A man who had robbed an advocate at a hotel here on Jan. 10, after befriending him on a social media platform has been arrested by Mandi Police on Jan. 12. The Police have recovered gold ornaments weighing 149 grams and worth Rs. 7,25,000 from the accused.

The miscreant identified as Murali, had befriended Advocate Gajendra, Vice-President of Bengaluru Bar Association and a resident of Chandra Layout in Bengaluru, on a App. The accused had told Gajendra that he was from Mysuru and was into chit fund business. Murali, who had obtained the mobile phone number of Gajendra, began to call and message him to gain confidence.

On Jan. 10, Gajendra, who had come to Mysuru, had taken a room at a hotel on New Sayyaji Rao Road. He then called Murali to his room, where they consumed liquor and Murali stayed in the room along with Gajendra.

The next day at about 7 am, when Gajendra woke up, he did not find Murali and on checking, Gajendra found his gold ornaments weighing about 149 grams and a briefcase containing his clothes missing and lodged a complaint at Mandi Police Station.

Mandi Police, who had registered a case, took the accused into custody on Jan. 12 and interrogated him. Based on the information given by the accused, Police recovered 149 grams gold ornaments worth Rs. 7.25 lakh intact from him.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) S. Jahnavi and NR Sub-Division ACP C.K. Ashwathnarayan, guided Mandi Inspector S. Nagesh, Sub-Inspectors Revanasiddappa and Rangaswamy, Assistant Sub-Inspector K.S. Guruswamy and staff J.C. Rajendra, Janardhanrao, Mohammed Khayyum, Rajusaab, Mehaboob Khan, Jayakumar, Ismail, Sameer, kariyappa and Yogesh and Technical Wing’s Kumar, Manju and Shyamsundar in solving the case.
