Srirangapatna: Srirangapatna Rural Police have arrested a man on the charges of murdering his mother-in-law at Yelekere village in Pandavapura taluk.
The accused has been identified as 31-year-old Kantharaju, a resident of Katteri village in Pandavapura taluk while the victim is Parvathamma, wife of late Swamygowda of Yelekere village.
On Dec. 12 night, Parvathamma along with her daughter Arpitha had gone to Eshwara Temple in the village for Karthika Masa puja. After puja at temple, Parvathamma performed Ganga puja at VC Canal and was on her way home when somebody stabbed her from behind.
Though Parvathamma was rushed to a hospital in Mysuru, she succumbed to stab injuries.Her son Arun Kumar had lodged a complaint with Srirangapatna Rural Police.
The Police who took up the investigation, arrested the accused Kantharaju within 24 hours.
In his confession statement, Kantharaju told the Police that his mother-in-law was responsible for his wife Arpitha deserting him and staying with her. Despite asking his mother-in-law repeatedly to send back Arpitha, she (Parvathamma) refused, following which I murdered her.” Police have seized the bike and knife used for the crime and have sent Kantharaju to judicial custody.
Srirangapatna Rural Inspector B.G. Kumar, Sub-Inspector Rakshitha and staff Srinivas Murthy, Muthuraj, Revaiah, Shankar and Ravindra cracked the case.
