Man arrested for stealing jewellery from temples

Mysuru: Kuvempunagar Police, on Mar.1, have arrested a person on charges of stealing gold ornaments and silver articles at Shaneshwara Swamy Temple in Ramakrishnanagar here and have recovered the stolen booty besides seizing a two-wheeler used for the crime.

The accused is 37-year-old Mayur of Yallamma Colony, Bannimantap in city.

During interrogation, the accused is said to have told the Police that he had stolen gold ornaments and silver articles at Shaneshwara Swamy Temple in Ramakrishnanagar and Maruleshwara Temple in Ashokapuram in city. Based on the information provided by the accused, the Police have recovered 120 grams gold ornaments and 240 grams silver articles worth about Rs.3.80 lakh from him.

Accused Mayur was also involved in temple burglary cases at Kuvempunagar, Nazarbad, Mandya Rural, Ramanagaram and Kanakapura Police limits.

The Police have also arrested 49-year-old Lakshmana, proprietor of My Balaji Bankers and Jewellers at B.M. Shri Nagar in Metagalli for receiving the stolen gold and silver from the accused. The Cops have launched a hunt to nab the accomplices of Mayur, who are absconding.

DCP M. Muthuraj and K.R. Sub-Division ACP M. Dharmappa supervised Kuvempunagar Inspector Raju, SI K. Raghu, ASI Somegowda, K.R. Sub-Division Crime Detection staff CI Mukhaddar Sharif, Sunil, Radesh, Sagar, Ramegoda, Adarsh and Rafiq Ullah, in the nabbing and recovery operation, according to a press release from the PRO, City Police Commissioner’s Office, Mysuru.
