Man arrested for killing daughter to ‘save honour’

H.D. Kote:  A case of an alleged honour killing has been reported in H.D. Kote where a man has been accused of murdering his daughter as she had an affair with a boy outside their caste. The man has been arrested now and further investigations are on.

The incident has been reported from Gollanabeedu Village in H.D. Kote Taluk and the accused has been identified as Kumar. According to villagers, Kumar’s 20-year-old daughter Sushma was in love with a youth at Alanahalli village in Mysuru. The boy, whose identity has not been revealed, belonged to a different caste and Sushma’s parents objected to the affair.

Sushma was studying at a college in Mysuru and was having the affair since one year. Her parents reportedly discontinued her studies and advised her to stay at home. Villagers said that Kumar was upset as his daughter continued her relationship.

On Feb. 21, Kumar allegedly took Sushma to his own field and forced her to drink poison. He later burnt the dead body in the field. However, not seeing Sushma at her house, some villagers questioned Kumar who gave evasive replies. Villagers later alerted the Police.

Based on the information given by the villagers, Circle Inspector Harish Kumar, Sub-Inspector Ashok and DySP Rai visited the village this morning and arrested Kumar.
