Mysuru: Cases of people under severe depression and stress murdering their loved ones and committing suicide seem to have been on the rise.
Even as the incident where an unemployed software engineer R. Prajwal killing his wife Savitha and child Sinchana and attempting suicide in Vijayanagar Third Stage in city on May 25 is fresh in the memory, one more similar incident where a man killing his wife and committing suicide has been reported from Jayapura Hobli this morning.
It may be mentioned here that even in Doddaballapur near Bengaluru a similar incident occurred just two days back when a deceased TV anchor Chandan’s wife Meena, unable to bear the loss of her husband who died in a road accident, slit the throat of her son Tushar and later committed suicide by consuming poison.
The latest incident in Mysuru was reported at Murudanahalli in Jayapura Hobli where a man crushed the head of his wife with a boulder and later hung himself. The couple owned a farm and had four children. Now with the parents gone, the four children are at the mercy of relatives and villagers.
The man has been identified as 45-year-old Ningaraju and his wife 37-year-old Chikkanki. Police said that Ningaraju would have murdered Chikkanki on Tuesday and would have hung himself the same day.
While Chikkanki’s body with her head crushed was found in a field owned by the couple, Ningaraju’s body was found hanging inside a room of the house. The children were away at their grandmother’s place.
Police said that some villagers complained of foul smell emanating from the house and when they broke open the door, Ningaraju’s body was found hanging. Soon, the Police began a search for the rest of the family when they found Chikkanki’s body. The children were later found at their grandmother’s place.
Both the bodies were highly decomposed and have been shifted to MMC&RI for post-mortem.
