Man dies after being assaulted for questioning theft of pigeons

Mysore/Mysuru: A 49-year-old man, who was seriously injured after being allegedly assaulted for questioning theft of pigeons, has died at a private hospital in city.

The assault had taken place at Sunnadakeri in K.R. Mohalla on Tuesday and the deceased has been identified as Govindaraju, a resident of the locality. The accused have been identified as Manoj Nayak, Jayashankar, Vinayak and Pramod Nayak, neighbours of Govindaraju.

Ullas, son of Govindaraju was rearing pigeons and on Saturday night, some persons had stolen 38 pigeons of Ullas. He (Ullas) had suspected the hands of Vinayak, Pramod Nayak, Jayashankar, Manoj Nayak and Vijay alias Kuppa behind the theft. On Tuesday, Pramod, a friend of Ullas, suspecting that the pigeons were in the house of Vinayak, went to his (Vinayak) house but was reportedly assaulted by those present in the house. Govindaraju, on learning about Pramod being assaulted, questioned them and irked over this, the four accused, who went near Govindaraju’s house, reportedly assaulted him and two women causing injuries.

Govindaraju, who had sustained serious injuries, was rushed to a private hospital, where he succumbed to injuries on Wednesday.

K.R. Police, who have registered a case, have arrested Manoj Nayak and Jayashankar.
