Man gets 10-year jail term for raping a minor

City’s 6th Additional District and  Sessions Court, which is also the District Court to dispose of cases under POCSO Act, has sentenced a youth to 10 years in jail and a fine of Rs.10,000 for raping a minor girl in Salukoppalu  on Sept.3, 2014.

The convicted has been identified as Sunil of Salukoppalu in Periyapatna taluk in the district.

It was alleged that Sunil, who was waiting on a bullock cart near his land, had molested and raped the minor girl, who came on a cycle  to accompany her grandfather, who had gone to graze cattle, back home. It  was also  alleged  that Sunil had threatened the girl with dire consequences if she reported the incident to her family members. A case in this regard had been registered at Bettadapura Police Station.

Periyapatna Circle Inspector Prasanna Kumar, who investigated the case, had filed a charge-sheet against Sunil at the Court which found Sunil guilty of charges and pronounced the above judgment. Public Prosecutor B.C. Shivarudraswamy appeared for the State.
