Man gets 4-year jail term for wife’s death

Mysuru:  The Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to four years imprisonment for causing the death of his wife due to his wayward attitude and alcoholism.  He has been identified as Suresh, a resident of Yedahalli village near Yelwal.

Suresh had married Vijayalakshmi alias Viji from Sahukarahundi and at the time of the marriage, he was given cash of Rs. 20,000, a gold chain and a finger ring. An alcoholic, he used to pick up quarrels with his wife every day.

On June 29 in 2014, Suresh came home drunk and assaulted Vijayalakshmi. He had then kicked her stomach and after she fell, he poured kerosene on her and told her to die. Fed up with his torture, the woman lit fire on herself and ended her life.

Kuruvatti found him guilty and sentenced him to imprisonment. Public Prosecutor Nagappa P. Nakman argued for the State.
