Man gets four-year jail term for murder

Mysuru: The 5th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to four years rigorous imprisonment and has imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 after he was found guilty of murder.

While the accused who was convicted for murder is 43-year-old Srinivas, a resident of Ramanahundi village, Jayapura hobli in the taluk, the deceased is Basavalinga.

On Jan. 1, 2024, Basavalinga and Gopalashetty were performing duty as security guards at a new layout in Shankar Nagar of Jnanaganga Housing Co-operative Society, next to Ramanahundi village.

Accused Srinivas had kept his mobile phone for charging in the security room and had gone to attend nature’s call. Basavalingu, who saw the mobile phone and no one nearby, took away the mobile phone.

At about 8 pm, Srinivas, who somehow learnt that Basavalinga had stolen his phone, came to the spot and saw Basavalinga sleeping under the trailer. He then dragged him from under the trailer and assaulted him on his face and other parts of the body.

Threatening to kill Basavalinga, Srinivas abused him and kicked Basavalinga on his chest and stomach. Basavalinga, who began to suffer from severe pain, was admitted to a private hospital in Mysuru at about 9.30 am on Jan. 2, 2024, where he succumbed to injuries at midnight, which came to be known during investigation.

A case was registered and a charge sheet was submitted to the Court.

Judge P.J. Somashekara, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found the accused guilty and convicted him. Public Prosecutor A.N. Madhu argued on behalf of the Government.
