He strangulated her with mangalsutra on Dec. 9, 2017
Hunsur: The Eighth Additional District and Sessions Court in Hunsur handed down a life imprisonment sentence to a man convicted of murdering a woman using her mangalsutra. Additionally, he was fined Rs. 10,000 for the crime.
The victim, Jyothi, was the wife of Ramakrishnegowda, a resident of Manjunatha Layout. The verdict was delivered by the 8th Additional District and Sessions Judge of Hunsur, Patil Mohan Kumar Bhimanagouda.
Ramakrishnegowda worked as a distributor for an Ayurvedic company operating under his wife’s name. They held meetings at their home concerning company matters and one individual, Praveen, regularly attended these gatherings.
However, when Ramakrishnegowda was away in other villages for work, Praveen would visit his house and allegedly harass Jyothi. Upon learning about this, Ramakrishnegowda reported the matter to the Village Panchayat, which led to Praveen being dismissed from his job.
On Dec. 8, 2017, while Ramakrishnegowda was not at home, Praveen once again visited the house and misbehaved with Jyothi. Upset by this, she complained to Praveen’s parents about his actions. However, Jyothi didn’t stop there. Next day (Dec. 9), at 6.15 am, she went to Praveen’s house and created a ruckus amidst many other residents.
Enraged by her actions, at approximately 6.50 am, Praveen went to the terrace of Ramakrishnegowda’s house and strangled Jyothi to death using her gold mangalsutra. After committing the crime, he fled from the scene.
The Hunsur Town Police registered a case and presented a charge sheet in the Court. The Government was represented by Public Prosecutor K.M.C. Shivashankara Murthy, during the legal proceedings.
