Man gets seven-year jail for assaulting, robbing senior citizen

Mysuru/Mysore: The Second Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to seven years imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 5,000 after he was found guilty of assaulting a senior citizen and robbing her of her gold chain.

The man who was sent to jail is 36-year-old T.M. Nagendra, a resident of Tumbanerale village in Nanjangud Taluk.

Nagendra, on Jan. 28, 2018, had assaulted a senior citizen identified as Nanjamma, a resident of Janata Layout, on her head with a heavy object, while she was opening the shutter of the milk booth at Bandipalya at about 6 am and had snatched her 35-gram gold chain before fleeing from the spot. Nanjamma, who was seriously injured, was admitted to a private hospital.

Mysuru Rural Police, who had registered a case, had arrested accused Nagendra and had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court. The Judge, who took up the case, found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced him to jail besides imposing a fine, failing which the accused has to undergo an additional six months simple imprisonment.

Public Prosecutor H.D. Anandkumar argued on behalf of the Government.
