Nanjangud: A man, holding his brother-in-law responsible for his sister’s death, hacked his brother-in-law to death with a machete at the new bus stand here in full public view and later went to the Police Station where he surrendered himself yesterday.
While the deceased is Shivanna (28), a resident of Halare village, the person, who hacked him to death, is Rangaswamy, brother of Shivanna’s wife late Latha and a resident of Saraswathi Colony in Nanjangud.
It is alleged that Shivanna, who had married Latha, used to harass her frequently and depressed over frequent harassment, Latha had committed suicide by hanging self about eight months ago.
Rangaswamy, holding Shivanna of being responsible for his sister’s death, had earlier attempted to kill him, it is learnt. As he could not succeed, Rangaswamy was waiting for the right time to take revenge.
On Monday at about 6.30 pm, Rangaswamy, who noticed Shivanna standing at the Nanjangud New Bus Stand, attacked him in full public view and hacked Shivanna to death with a machete he was carrying. Shivanna, who was severely injured on his head, neck and other parts of the body, died on the spot.
The Police, who rushed to the spot, enquired with the public about the identity of the murderer only to receive negative answers. The Police later took the mobile phone of Shivanna found in his pocket and the machete lying nearby besides shifting the body to the mortuary.
Meanwhile, Rangaswamy, after killing his brother-in-law, went to the Police Station riding his bike and surrendered to the Police there and also confessed of killing Shivanna, it is learnt.
Circle Inspector Shivamurthy, who has registered a case, is investigating and the accused will be produced before the Court later in the day today.
