Mysore/Mysuru: A man allegedly murdered his wife by slitting her throat at Jattihundi village in the taluk yesterday.
The deceased is Savitha (37) of Gopalapura village in the taluk and the accused husband is 49-year-old Devaraju. They were married 16 years ago and they have a 13-year-old daughter.
Devaraju, who was addicted to liquor, used to come home drunk daily and reportedly torture Savitha. Fed up with frequent fights, Savitha had left her home six months ago and was working at an old age home near Jattihundi village and stay there itself.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Devaraju was angry on Savitha as she had sent a divorce notice, Police said.
Yesterday morning, Savitha came out to go to K.R. Hospital for a therapy. Devaraju, who came there, asked her to get on the bike. When Savitha refused, Devaraju, took out a knife which he had brought, stabbed Savitha on her stomach, slit her throat and fled from the spot.
Yelwal Police, who reached the spot, conducted mahazar, registered a case and shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary besides launching a hunt to nab Devaraju. The Police traced Devaraju at a farm near Jayapura and took him into custody last midnight.
Post-mortem was conducted this morning and the body was handed over to the family members.
