Hunsur: A man from Hunsur has been arrested under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually assaulting his minor daughter and impregnating her.
The 14-year-old girl delivered a baby girl at Cheluvamba Hospital in Mysuru recently.
The accused is a 40-year-old man, a resident of Hanagodu Hobli, in the taluk. He has been charged with repeatedly raping his daughter under the influence of alcohol and impregnating her. After raping, he used to threaten his daughter with dire consequences if she disclosed to anyone about the incident.
The accused is also said to have admitted her to Cheluvamba Hospital for delivery, where she gave birth to a baby girl on May 9. His wife deserted him years ago as he was an alcoholic. The couple had a son and a daughter. While the woman took the boy with her, the daughter remained with the father.
The minor girl was living with her father and grandmother who was ailing. The old lady, however, did not notice the brutal rape by the girl’s father, almost every day. When the girl became pregnant, the old woman assumed that the bulging stomach was due to overeating.
After learning about the incident, girl’s mother lodged a complaint against her husband at Hunsur Rural Police Station.
ASP Harish Pandey said that both the baby and the mother will be sent to Bal Mandir after producing them before the Child Welfare Committee in Mysuru.
