H.D. Kote: A 56-year-old man was killed on the spot, when a wild elephant attacked and trampled him to death near Hampapura in the taluk yesterday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Mallesh, a mason by profession and a resident of Vaddara Palya in the taluk.
Yesterday morning, Mallesh was on his way from Vaddara Palya to Hommaragalli village for work, when the wild elephant appeared before him all of a sudden, attacked and trampled him to death. Villagers, who witnessed the incident, immediately informed the Forest Department officials.
MLA Anil Chikkamadu and Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha Constituency Congress candidate Sunil Bose visited the Government Hospital and consoled deceased Mallesh’s family members.
MLA Anil Chikkamadu handed over a compensation cheque for Rs. 5 lakh to deceased Mallesh’s wife Indramma and instructed the Forest officials to provide the remaining compensation amount of Rs. 10 lakh at the earliest.
The MLA also instructed to provide Rs. 4,000 every month for five years to Indramma and give a job to Mallesh’s son.
A case has been registered at H.D. Kote Police Station.
