Man on his way to vote killed by wild elephant in Hanur

Hanur:  A man, who was on his way to cast his vote, was killed by a wild elephant yesterday. The incident took place in Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary limits.

The deceased has been identified as Puttaswamy (42), a resident of Tokere village in Hanur taluk. He and his wife were on their way from Hale Martalli village to Tokere village to exercise their franchise, when a wild elephant attacked them. Puttaswamy’s wife told the villagers that her husband was killed on the spot by the elephant. The villagers immediately informed the Forest Department officials, who rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. The villagers alleged that the roads of villages in forest borders were in pathetic conditions and as vehicles including two-wheelers cannot ply on these roads, villagers walk from one place to another which was resulting in such incidents. They have urged the elected representatives and the District Administration to provide basic facilities to these villagers and prevent such incidents from taking place.
