Man on ‘Mission Run for Blood’

Bengaluru’s Vinodh Kumar runs from Bengaluru to Mysuru to create awareness on blood donation

Following the COVID outbreak, number of people turning for blood donation has reduced and hence, to create awareness on the same and to encourage people to come forward for blood donation, a Bengalurean began the New Year 2022 by running from Bengaluru to Mysuru to draw the attention of people towards blood donation.

S. Vinodh Kumar, who has been donating blood for the past 20-plus years and has donated blood 74 times till now, is the one who wanted to create awareness that we can donate blood even in these tough times.

To spread this message, Vinodh started the mission — Run for Blood. Run from Bengaluru to Mysuru with Lions Club — LionsBloodLine support team.

Vinodh started his run at 12 am on Jan. 1, 2022, from Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru. He reached Kengeri at 2.30 am and proceeded towards Ramanagara. He reached Ramanagara at 7.30 am, Channapatna at 10 am, Maddur at 1 pm and Mandya at 6 pm and proceeded towards Mysuru. Vinodh was accompanied by his coach Chetan Kumar, G.K. Mahesh and Mahesh Kumar till Maddur, by Prakash from Maddur to Mandya and M. Suresh and H. Sujay ran 27 kms along with Vinodh till Mysuru.

The 43-year-old Vinodh and team reached Mysuru at 2 am on Jan. 2, 2022 — a journey that took 26 hours.

All along the route, Vinodh was felicitated by Lions Clubs of Ramanagara, Channapatna, Maddur, Mandya and Mysuru.

Vinodh Kumar, who works as a Delivery Manager in TCS, Bengaluru, is the son of N.V. Sivaraman Nair and K. Vijayalakshmi, residents of S.R. Layout,  9th Cross, Basavanapura Main Road,  K.R. Puram, Bengaluru.
