Man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing wife

The Second Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and has imposed a fine of Rs. 3,000 for killing his wife.

The man, who has been sentenced, has been identified as Shivaraj, a resident of Hootagalli in city. Shivaraj had killed his wife Manjula by pouring kerosene and setting her ablaze on Aug. 29, 2012.

It is learnt that, Shivaraj, who was addicted to alcohol, used to pester his wife Manjula, who was working in a garment factory for money frequently.

On Aug. 29 too, Shivaraj began to pester Manjula for money, which led to a wordy duel resulting in Shivaraj, allegedly pouring kerosene on Manjula and setting her ablaze thus killing her.

The whole incident had taken place in front of Nandakumar, a paying guest, who gave witness of the incident in the Court.

Vijayanagar Police, who had registered a case in this regard, had submitted a charge-sheet against the accused before the Court.

Judge Vijayakumar M. Anandashetty, who heard the argument, held Shivaraj guilty and pronounced the judgement.

Senior Public Prosecutor H.D. Anandkumar argued for the Government.
