Mysuru: The 1st Additional District and Sessions Court has recently sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and has imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 on him for killing a fruit vendor who had refused to give him a piece of jackfruit for free.

The man, who has been sentenced, has been identified as 35-year-old T. Nithyananda, a resident of K.G. Koppal in city.

Nithyananda, on July 2, 2015, had asked fruit vendor Kalegowda, who was selling jackfruit on a pushcart in front of G.K. Vale at Saraswathipuram to give him a piece of jackfruit for free. When Kalegowda refused to give, Nithyananda, who picked up a stick, had brutally assaulted Kalegowda.

Though Kalegowda was admitted to K.R. Hospital, he breathed his last on July 3, 2015 at the hospital after failing to respond to the treatment.

Saraswathipuram Police, who had registered a case in this regard, had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court. Judge Vanamala Yadav, who heard the arguments, found Nithyananda guilty of the crime and sentenced the accused to 10 years rigorous imprisonment, imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 and has ordered the government to pay Rs.1 lakh as compensation to the wife of deceased Kalegowda.

Public Prosecutor Ajitkumar D. Hamigi argued for the Government.
