Mysore/Mysuru: City’s 5th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of murdering his wife.

The man, who was sentenced, is Subbu alias Ravi, a resident of Debur village in Nanjangud Rural Police limits.

Subbu had married Amuda of Rajaji Colony in Nanjangud town about 10 years ago and the couple have two daughters. After two to three years of marriage, Subbu, who began to suspect his wife having illicit relationship, used to come home drunk daily and harass her mentally and physically.

On Dec. 6, 2020 at about 4.30 pm, Subbu, who came home fully drunk, picked up a fight with Amuda and at about 6.30 pm, when Amuda was serving food for him (Subbu), he poured sanitiser on Amuda and set her on fire. Amuda succumbed to burn injuries at KR Hospital in Mysuru later.

A case under IPC Sections 498(A) and 302 was registered and the then Circle Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar had submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the Court.

Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Gururaj Somakkalavar, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced him to two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1,000 under Column 498(A) of the IPC and again sentenced him to life imprisonment under Column 320 of the IPC and a fine of Rs. 5,000. Public prosecutor B.E. Yogeshwar argued on behalf of the Government.
