Man sentenced to life for killing woman

Mysore/Mysuru: The city’s 7th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 20,000 after he was found guilty of murdering a woman who had exposed his illicit relationship and also for brutally assaulting the woman’s daughter.

The convict is Mahesh, a resident of Saragur village in Badanavalu Police limits. Mahesh had hacked Seethamma of the same village with a machete and had also brutally assaulted Seethamma’s daughter Geetha in a bid to kill her.

On Feb. 2, 2016, about 2.30 pm, Seethamma received a call from the woman, who is said to have been in a relationship with Mahesh, who told Seethamma not to disclose her illicit relationship to anyone.

Mahesh too is said to have called Seethamma and scolded her during which wordy duel ensued between Seethamma and Mahesh.

On the same day at about 6.15 pm, Mahesh, who came to Seethamma’s house, reportedly dragged her out of the house and allegedly hacked her to death with a machete.

Seethamma’s daughter Geetha, who rushed to her mother’s rescue, was also brutally assaulted by Mahesh.

A case was registered at Badanavalu Police Station and the then Nanjangud Circle Inspector M.C. Ravikumar conducted investigation and had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court.

Judge Yashwanth Kumar, who took up the hearing, heard the arguments from both sides and found Mahesh guilty of the crime, following which the Judge sentenced Mahesh to life imprisonment. Public Prosecutor K. Nagaraj argued on behalf of the Government.
