Mysuru: City’s Third Additional District and Sessions Judge K. Bhagya has sentenced Sunderraj, a resident of Karigowda Layout, Hootagalli, to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Shanthala.
Sunderraj, originally from Toravalli village, H.D. Kote taluk, had been married to Shanthala, the daughter of Narayanashetty from Chamanahalli village. The couple, who had a daughter, initially lived in Belavadi near their workplace.
However, following Sunderraj’s alleged extramarital affair, which led to frequent quarrels with his wife, the couple moved to a rented house in Hootagalli.
Sunderraj reportedly harassed Shanthala, demanding money from her parents. On Sept. 19, 2017, after leaving their daughter at his parents’ house, Sunderraj quarrelled with Shanthala in Mysuru, demanding money. During the confrontation, he stabbed Shanthala to death.
Shanthala’s brother filed a complaint with Saragur Police, which was later transferred to the Vijayanagar Police Station.
Following an investigation led by Police Inspector P.N. Anil, a chargesheet was filed. After hearing the case, Judge Bhagya convicted Sunderraj for murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Prosecutor T.H. Lolakshi represented the State.
