Mysuru: The city’s 5th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of suffocating his wife to death.
The man, who was sentenced to life, is Swamy Nayaka of Boodithittu village in Periyapatna taluk.
Swamy, who was in love with Sowmya, daughter of Mahadevi of Abbalati village, had married her seven years back. After a few months, Swamy, who began to doubt his wife began to pick fights and quarrel with her.
On May 8, 2022, when Mahadevi had come to her daughter’s house, Swamy began to quarrel with Sowmya, following which Mahadevi advised Swamy and left for her home on May 9 morning.
But on the same day at 12 noon, Swamy assaulted Sowmya and suffocated her to death using a pillow.
The then Periyapatna Inspector Jagadish, who had registered a murder case, investigated the case and had submitted a chargesheet against Swamy to the Court.
Judge Gururaj Somakkalavar, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found accused Swamy Nayaka guilty of the crime and sentenced him to life imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 5,000.
