Man should live for the cause of society: Dr. Gururaj Karajagi

Mysore/Mysuru:  Renowned academician Dr. Gururaj Karajagi said that nothing is permanent for mankind and humans should live for the cause of society.

He was delivering the Foundation Day address of University of Mysore (UoM) at Crawford Hall here recently after offering floral tributes to the portrait of Nalwadi.

Reiterating that there is no such thing as a permanent one for human beings, he said that humans should leave behind a trail of service and sacrifice before their life comes to an end.

Pointing out that humanistic achievements will be remembered by the people and the gen next, he said that such trails should be left behind by everyone for generations to come.

Citing the example of Sulekere Lake in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district, considered as the second largest built lake in the Asian continent, Dr. Karajagi said that the lake is still remembered for the sacrifice of a woman centuries ago, which stands as a testimony to the service of  mankind.

“We should not live for oneself. Instead we should live for the cause of the society as this will get entrenched in the minds of the people for long. We have to come out of the mindset of living for oneself,” he said adding that everyone should make his/her own contribution to the society in the best possible way.

Noting that God Almighty is a power, he said that this power controls us. It is the God’s power that saves us from challenges during our  troubled  and testing times if we possess  a good attitude and do selfless service to the society, he added.

UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath, Registrar V. Shylaja and others were present on the occasion.
