Mandya MP Sumalatha seeks ladies-only train

Mandya: Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambarish has urged the Railway Ministry to launch special ladies-only train between Bengaluru and Mysuru route. Mandya MP has put forth her suggestion at a meeting held at the Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager’s office on Monday.

“A special train for ladies would facilitate better commuting experience and assure safety of women. Such a measure would encourage many more to work in bigger cities like Bengaluru,” said Mandya MP Sumalatha. She told that she has also written to Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and MoS for Railways Suresh Angadi in this regard.

“Every day, around 4,000-5,000 women commute between Mysuru and Bengaluru. At present, additional two ladies-only coaches added to regular trains are not sufficient. As a result, a number of women are forced to travel with mixed crowd causing lot of inconvenience to them. A ladies-only train would assure safety as well as provide reassurance to their families,”  she informed.
